MATHS TABLES CONTEST FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS
The St. Xavier's College - Schools linkage in association with St. Mary's
Convent High School, Mapusa, recently conducted a Mathematics Tables
Contest for school students. This contest was conducted with the aim of
creating a liking, for maths . The contest was conducted at St. Mary's
Convent High School, and was coordinated by Mr. Mahesh Nair, Lecturer,
Dept. of Chemistry, St. Xavier's College. Participants included teams from
several schools in and around Mapusa.
The contest consisted of several rounds, including a general, written and
visual round. The contest saw the use of technology in the form of the LCD
projector and multimedia. The contestants were particularly thrilled with
the buzzer round of the contest, during which participants wanting to
answer a question were required to indicate this, by pressing a buzzer.
This round demanded presence of mind, and quick reflexes, as the team
which pressed the buzzer first got the chance to answer. The visual round
was also quite popular among the participants. This round required
participants to decipher visual clues to answer questions. Participants
also had a chance to dazzle the audience with their computational skills
and quick thinking in the final round of the contest called the rapid fire
round. This round offered unlimited question to the teams, and these had
to be answered within a prescribed time limit.
The participants were very enthusiastic throughout the contest, and
thoroughly entertained the audience with their accurate answers and
competitive spirit. Their efforts were much appreciated by the audience
which encouraged and cheered their favourite teams. The contest concluded
with the declaration of results and the awarding of prizes to the winners.
All participants were awarded participation certificates.
